South Korea Teach Voyage
• Public schools are where students go for their day to day schooling. Teachers who work in public schools typically teach at 2 - 3 different public schools (depending on the province) during the week to fill up their schedules.
• Public school teaching is Monday to Friday during the day from around 08.30 to 16.30.
• Public schools tend to have larger class sizes and teachers have more responsibility in preparing and creating lesson plans and materials but teachers are able to reach a wider demographic of students.
• Public school key points include:
• Working hours are typically in mornings and afternoons, from Monday to Friday.
• There are usually around 20-30 students per class at the public schools.
• There is a South Korean teaching assistant in the class. • More lesson planning is required.
• Around 22-24 teaching hours per week.
• There is a strong possibility that you will be the only foreign teacher at your school.
• Will likely be required to teach at more than 1 school each week.
What to Expect
• Lifetime placement.
• Earn a monthly salary of R22 000 - R28 000 per month. • Schools pay 50% of your medical insurance (some schools pay 100% but it is not required from the school) • Receive a rent free semi-furnished (bed, refrigerator, aircon and washing machine) accommodation. You will however be responsible to pay utilities and maintenance. • One way airfare at minimum will be reimbursed to you by the school after arrival.
• End of contract bonus of approx. 1 month's salary - you get a 13th cheque for every 12 months that you worked.
• You will receive appropriate training systems and lesson plans before starting your new job.
• Airport arrival support and pick-up.
• Paid holidays (usually between 10-15 days, however this differ between the schools)
• Comprehensive job placement assistance.
• Placement with screened schools.
• Support and guidance with the visa process.
• Support and guidance prior to your departure.
• In country support from experienced staff.
• Contract negotiation between the employer and employee. • World Voyage T-shirt.
• On-going support once you are placed.
• South Korea cultural orientation.
• Accommodation included for 4 weeks during the TESOL course.
• 120 hour accredited in class TESOL course.
• 1 week of cultural orientation which includes:
• Grand Palace tour and Hanbok experience.
• A visit to the Korean War Memorial.
• A Korean cooking class.
• Taekwondo Martial Arts class.
• Korean language class. • SIM card.
Requirements
• To become a teacher in South Korea you have to meet a few requirements:
• Have a Bachelor's Degree of 3 years+ in any field of study.
• Be a South African citizen.
• Have an excellent grasp of the English language.
• Have a clear and easy to understand English accent.
• Good physical and mental health, candidates with depression, HIV and epilepsy will not be considered.
• Be between the ages of 21-35 (older candidates will be considered)
• Have a clean criminal record with no previous convictions.
• Willing to commit for a minimum of 12 months.
• Must have a certificate of minimum 120 hours in class OR online.
• TEFL/TESOL/CELTA (you can obtain this through our partnering agency and is included in Option 1&2)
• Candidates with a Teaching Degree do not need to have a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA qualification.
